Monitoring
Ping (TCP) monitors
TCP connect checks for hosts and ports without HTTP.
Ping monitors open a TCP connection to a host and port. They do not send HTTP — useful for databases, Redis, mail servers, or any service that listens on a port.
Create a ping monitor
- Monitors → New monitor → Ping (
/monitors/new/ping). - Enter
hostnameorhostname:port. - If you omit the port, statusloop uses 443.
You can also switch an existing monitor to Ping under Settings → check type.
Worker behavior
- Timeout: 5 seconds
- No retry at the check level
- Success = TCP connection established
When to use ping vs HTTP
| Use ping (TCP) when… | Use HTTP when… |
|---|---|
| The service has no HTTP endpoint | You care about HTTP status and response time |
| You only need to know the port is open | You need content or status codes |
